Barrett's esophagus is a condition in which there is a change in the morphology of the esophageal mucosa due to chronic gastroesophageal reflux. In cases of dysplasia, we can intervene endoscopically. Endoscopic treatment includes removal of the part of the mucosa that is dysplastic (Endoscopic Mucosal Resection-EMR) or radiofrequency ablation of Barrett's esophagus (RFA). They are painless procedures performed in the hospital under anesthesia.

Dr. Charilaos Papafragkakis is a gastroenterologist - hepatologist practicing in Athens. He trained in advanced therapeutic endoscopy at the MD Anderson Cancer Center of the University of Texas and in gastroenterology at the Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York. He trained in hepatology at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Medical Center. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
